Blog Archive MBA News Commentary Does Changing the Composition of HBSs Class Matter
Blog Archive MBA News Commentary Does Changing the Composition of HBSâs Class Matter Last week, the Wall Street Journal published an article, with quotes from mbaMission Founder Jeremy Shinewald about the changing composition of the class at Harvard Business School (HBS), and included the chart below to illustrate the classs new stripes. MBA aspirants are highly attuned to every little twitch at HBS, but what does this change really meanand does it matter? Those in finance are no doubt a little bit concerned that HBS is âdown on bankers,â but the finance community should take a step back and consider that its industry is still the best represented. Amid the hubbub, an important question may have been lostwhat is the purpose of this ârebalancingâ of the class? Is this HBSâs way of apologizing for having graduated so many bankers, who have endured so much criticism over the past few years? And if it is a quasi-apology, the question that is really begged is ⦠will this produce any fewer bankers or will this just result in opening the field of finance to more individuals with manufacturing and tech experience? The true test for HBS, if the school wants to change its output, is not the make-up of the incoming class, but the data in the graduating classs employment report. Unfortunately, we will need to wait a few years to see whether HBS graduates more individuals who pursue industry and fewer who enter financial services. The Effectiveness Of The Hpv Vaccine - 1555 Words
The effectiveness of immunizations has been studies for years. Edward Jenner, the producer of the first vaccination, reduced the frequency of diseases through immunization (Mhaske 209). HPV and MMR vaccines elongate lives by immunizing them from harmful infections. Studies are being conducted to test the effectiveness of the HPV vaccine. The first HPV vaccine came out in June of 2006, but it was not released until 2007 (Vetter, Geller 1258) (Fonteneau 2). HPV stands for Human Papillomavirus; it is a sexually transmitted disease that leads to cervical cancer and genital warts in women, and genital warts, penile cancer, and anal cancer in men (Vamos, McDermott, and Daley 302). There are four strands of HPV, with HPV 16 and HPV 18 being theâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦The main difference between two and three doses is its longevity of protection against the disease (Aljunid 1). Each year the HPV vaccine is becoming better known, and by the beginning of 2012, the HPV vaccination had spread to forty countries (Aljunid 2). These vaccinations are prophylactic, meaning that they are given to patients before having been diagnosed. In other words, instead of attempting to cure HPV, vaccinations are used to prevent the unhealthy cells in the body before they cause a problem (ââ¬Å"Measles-QA about Disease and Vaccineâ⬠). While HPV is a disease more common among young adults, MMR effects more infants. MMR stands for measles, mumps, and rubella (ââ¬Å"Measles-QA about Disease and Vaccineâ⬠). The symptoms of MMR include a fever, cough, runny nose, conjunctivitis, and a rash spreading down the body (ââ¬Å"Measles-QA about Disease and Vaccineâ⬠). MMR is most commonly contracted through contact with mucus (ââ¬Å"Measles-QA about Disease and Vaccineâ⬠). It is a highly contagious disease among infants. Severe cases of MMR cause pneumonia, encephalitis (brain swelling), and possibly death (ââ¬Å"Measles-QA about Disease and Vaccineâ⬠). The MMR vaccine is given in two doses (ââ¬Å"Measles-QA about Disease and Vaccineâ⬠). The first dose is given to an infant of 12-15 months (ââ¬Å"Measles-QA about

Childhood Vaccination - Free Essay Example
Sample details Pages: 4 Words: 1184 Downloads: 8 Date added: 2019/03/13 Category Sociology Essay Level High school Tags: Childhood Essay Did you like this example? Childhood Vaccinations Infectious diseases have ravaged the world since recorded history. In the year 400 B.C. Hippocrates described mumps diphtheria, epidemic jaundice, and other conditions (6), indicating that disease was a recognized problem dating back thousands of years. Infectious diseases are bodily disorders caused by microorganisms, such as: bacteria, viruses, fungi or parasites. All kinds of organisms are present on the human body, ranging from beneficial to harmful. Under specific conditions, these organisms are given the ability to become diseases. Some examples of these microorganisms are pneumonia, tuberculosis, diphtheria, influenza and human immunodeficiency virus infection. Three categories are used to describe the intensity of an infectious disease: outbreak, epidemic, and pandemic. An outbreak is when multiple cases of a disease occur in an unexpected, but isolated, area. An epidemic is declared when there is a significant rise in the occurrence of a disease in a given region, while a pandemic occurs when an epidemic spreads worldwide and infects a large part of the human population. Donââ¬â¢t waste time! Our writers will create an original "Childhood Vaccination" essay for you Create order Even in modern times, outbreaks of disease threaten our civilization. Malaria is still rampant in tropical climates, causing thousands of deaths annually. This disease still lacks a safe and reliable vaccine, however physical measures have been installed for protection. The outbreak of H1N1 in 2009 was unexpected and became the most recent pandemic. Now, H1N1 is covered by the seasonal flu vaccine. Due to a decline in vaccinations, the MMR (Measles Mumps Rubella) trio of diseases has had stronger outbreaks with more severe cases. As history shows, vaccinations are undeniably good for the masses. They control outbreaks and prevent death from controllable, infectious diseases. However, vaccinations and their implementation are controversial. There is a high cost of implementation of vaccines, especially since the government intervenes to try and make them affordable. There is also a strong belief that vaccines might have a detrimental effect on an individuals health, due to adverse reactions. Also, in some religions, vaccines are highly opposed. The delivery system of vaccines greatly affects the safe administration of the vaccine, through its manufacture and storage. Another controversial theory is that vaccines interfere with the natural order of things, causing viruses to evolve faster into more severe strains that vaccines with eventually be unable to prevent. A large portion of the costs of vaccines comes from the initial development. The governments intervention, specifically within the school systems, has also greatly affected the rates of elimination of common infectious diseases in the United States, diseases like: diphtheria, tetanus, poliomyelitis, smallpox, measles, mumps, rubella, influenza, and meningitis. With the requirement that students are immunized before attending school, a larger percentage of students are continuing to be up to date on their immunization records. The impact of vaccines on the individual is immense. There are many factors that contribute to successful vaccinations; therefore, there are many steps that could lead to an unsuccessful vaccination. The timing of the administration of the vaccine is important, is it more beneficial to inoculate early, or to inoculate a more mature immune system? Theres also controversy concerning the idea that giving too many vaccines at once hinders a persons immune system, while others say that giving them all at once gives the body more time to recover from all of them. The government has now required certain vaccinations be given to children before starting school, but is this violating a persons right to education and privacy? Do the benefits of children being vaccinated and preventing minor outbreaks at school outweigh the costs of losing rights? The delivery system of vaccines can impact the effectiveness and safety of vaccinations. The storage of vaccines, including location, temperature, and security, must be properly managed to ensure that the vaccine is able to prevent disease. Expiration dates cannot be exceeded for the same reason. Vaccines include preservatives that prolong shelf life. In the past, the common preservative was mercury or a related substance. Because mercury is believed to have adverse effects, it has been removed, but it is important that the preservatives are properly maintained to avoid causing problems for patients. Providers must handle the vaccines correctly to ensure that patients do not become ill because of improper sanitation. Training is essential to making sure that mistakes are prevented. Proper training will ensure that the provider recognizes patient conditions, like existing illnesses or known allergies, which could result in adverse reactions. One of the concerns that many parents have is that children are being inoculated against many diseases at such a young age. Parents fear that this aggressive timeline is too much for a young childs immune system to handle. Still others avoid vaccines because they believe that they will actually become sick with the disease they are being vaccinated against. This has been proven not to be true, but the concern continues. There are people who think that vaccinations should be stopped because they interfere with the natural order of life. Some proponents of that view believe that the deaths caused by the diseases are natures way of controlling the population or eliminating the weak members of society. Others fear that the diseases being controlled will mutate into diseases that are more deadly and/or unmanageable. Some religions believe that vaccinations conflict with Gods will, so they object to government requirements that children in school be vaccinated for certain diseases. It is interesting to note that there has been a rise in recent years regarding parents against vaccinations. It could almost be thought that history is somehow repeating itself; as there is increased security and safety, those who wish to be contrary rises. Even though there are many who have serious concerns about vaccinations, the vaccination programs in the United States and Europe have been so successful that they have inspired the 20th-century concept of disease eradication. This concept proposes that selected diseases could be eradicated from all human populations through global cooperation. The best example that supports this concept is that, in 1977, after a decade-long campaign involving 33 nations, smallpox was eradicated worldwide. Some parents also wonder, if the worst diseases have been eradicated, then why must their children receive vaccinations against them? Some are unable to see that diseases are still living organisms, which change and alter themselves over time. If there are many children that do not receive the smallpox vaccine, then that group is more susceptible to any disease that is derived of smallpox. Diseases are looking for ways to live too, which is why it is so shortsighted to believe that any kind of eradication would be a long-term solution. Conclusion Vaccinations are controversial, but they have been proven to save lives. Although individuals may have concerns about the safety, effectiveness, and/or appropriateness of vaccines and government vaccination programs, they continue to be developed and distributed worldwide. It would be highly beneficial, however, to begin providing parents with a more detailed explanation of what vaccines are, and what they do to protect children. Most distrust arises out of the fear of the unknown, so a very detailed immunization curriculum would likely aid in maintaining the percentage of youth and children being vaccinated.

Othello Shakespeare Essay Example For Students
Othello Shakespeare Essay In the play Othello, Shakespeare uses Iago, Cassio, Roderigo, and Othello to represent hatred, loyalty, love, and jealousy in mankind. Hatred being the thing of envy and ambition presented it self in may different forms. Loyalty being one of the forms, hatred presented itself as friendly and gracious. Loyalty also took on another form because with love one will be willing to do anything to obtain it. Jealousy taking on another form of hatred has control of over one s actions. Shakespeare makes the commentary that every male specie is different. Iago was filled with hate in which he used to play on others mind. Iago stated to Roderiga, why, by making him uncapable of Othello s place: knocking out his brains, shows that he is willing to use anyone for his hatred against Othello. He would use anyone, he used his own wife Emila, to steal Desdemona handkerchief for his devious plan. Iago pretended to be Cassio friend so he can set him up to play on Othello hatred. Iago was the most form of hatred in the book, taking on many personalities to setup Othello. Being a gentle man to everyone around him, Cassio had loyalty and had great manners. He would stick by Othello side through anything. He never knew he was being setup by Iago, but he always keep his loyalty to Othello. He had great manners especially when it came to women; these manners came into Iago theater in getting Othello mad. Cassio stating, I will rather sue to be despised than to deceive so good a commander with so slight, so drunken, and so indiscreet and officer, shows that he have lot of loyalty for Othello and it hurt him to think about betraying him. Othello was loyal and honest throughout the book. Being driving by love, Roderigo would do anything to get Desdemona. Roderigo at the beginning begin to state bashful things to Brabantio about the Moor and his daughter. This action shows you that Roderigo is willing to do anything he can to get Desdemona. Roderigo stated to Iago that he will sale his land, this action shows that he is willing to give up all his property to win Desdemona. Roderigo furthermore, agrees to kill Cassio showing he will kill for the love of Desdemona. Roderigo had deep love for Desdemona that blinded him. Being controlled by his actions, Othello had no control over his action. Jealousy had taking over so much of Othello mind he was willing to kill he love Desdemona. This action shows that he had no control over himself. He felt that his true friend Cassio had betrayed him by sleeping with his wife. This action shows that Othello had no train of thought. When Othello found out that Iago had set everything up, he realized the errors of his mistake. By realizing this, it shows that Othello didn t have control of what he did and let jealousy have control of his mind. Othello was a man truly in love but was blinded by jealousy. Shakespeare shows that every male have a different way of thinking. Iago, a villain with an outward appearance of honesty but filled with hate, envy and ambition was will to use anyone to get back at Othello. Cassio was a gentleman that had loyalty for the position in which he held. Roderigo was willing to give up faith and property for the love he felt for Desdemona. Othello had courage and leadership by nature but was easily persuade by jealousy for the love he had for Desdemona. By producing the same situation from different points of views, Shakespeare shows us how every male act different.

The Political Theories Of Locke And Hobbes Essays - Empiricists
The Political Theories Of Locke And Hobbes Political Theories of Locke and Hobbes John Locke influenced Western political thought immensely. He lived during the age of political upheaval, the Glorious Revolution. During this time, the Tories and the Whigs, England's first two political parties, joined together to rid their country of the tyrannical James II and welcomed as their new co-rulers his daughter, Mary, and her Dutch husband, William. Locke witnessed these events from the Netherlands, where he had fled in 1683 because he foresaw the accession of the absolutist and Catholic-leaning James II. These events greatly influenced his political theories. Throughout his writings, Locke argued that people had the gift of reason. Locke thought they had the natural ability to govern themselves and to look after the well being of society. He wrote, ?The state of nature has a law of nature to govern it, which treats everyone equally. Reason, which is that law, teaches all mankind?that being all equal and independent, no one ought to harm another in his life, health or possessions.? Locke did not believe that God had chosen a group or family of people to rule countries. He rejected the ?Divine Right,? which many kings and queens used to justify their right to rule. Instead, he argued that governments should only operate with the consent of the people they are governing. In this way, Locke supported democracy as a form of government. Locke wrote, ?We have learned from history we have reason to conclude that all peaceful beginnings of government have been laid in consent of the people.? Governments were formed, according to Locke, to protect the right to life, the right to freedom, and the right to property. Their rights were absolute, belonging to all the people. Locke also believed that government power should be divided equally into three branches of government so that politicians will not face the ?temptation? to grasp at absolute power.? If any government abused these rights instead of protecting them, then the people had the right to rebel and form a new gov ernment. John Locke spoke out against the control of any man against his will. This control was acceptable neither in the form of an unfair government, nor in slavery. Locke wrote, ?The natural liberty of man is to be free from any superior power on earth, and not to be under the will or legislative authority of man, but only have the law of nature for his rule.? In addition, Locke felt that women had the ability to reason, which entitled them to an equal voice- an unpopular idea during this time in history. Despite fearing that he might be censored, he wrote, ?It may not be wrong to offer new ideas when the old traditions are apt to lead men into mistakes, as this idea of fatherly power's probably has done, which seems so eager to place the power of parents over their children wholly in the father, as if the mother had no share in it: whereas if we consult reason or the Bible, we shall find she has an equal title.? Thomas Hobbes, on the other hand, had a completely different view of human beings and how government should function. This is due to his background of growing up in England, during a time of religious, social, and political discord. Hobbes, was very interested in why people allowed themselves to be ruled and what would be the best form of government for England. In 1651, Hobbes wrote his most famous work, entitled Leviathan. In it, he argued that people were naturally wicked and could not be trusted to govern. Therefore, Hobbes believed that an absolute monarchy- a government that gave all power to a king or queen- was best. Hobbes believed that humans were basically selfish creatures who would do anything to better their position. Left to themselves, he thought, people would act on their evil impulses. According to Hobbes, people therefore should not be trusted to make decisions on their own. In addition, Hobbes felt that nations, like people, were selfishly motivated. To Hobbes, each country was in a constant battle for power and wealth. To prove his point, Hobbes wrote, ?If men are naturally in a state of war,

Lamassu essays
Lamassu essays Lamassu is an Neo-Assyrian Akkadian term used to designate a composite creature, conceived of as a winged lion- or bull-figure with a human head. As protective deities or genii, larger than life-size statue-blocks of lamassi (pl.) were placed on either side of late Assyrian palace doorways and entrances in order to guard against the entry of evil and chaotic forces. As such, they are characteristic of this late phase in the development of Assyrian art (Neo- or Late Assyrian) when sculpture in the round was otherwise rare, compared to earlier periods. Lamassi in sculptural form are usually depicted as "double-aspect" figures, apparently possessing five (5) separate legs (when viewed from an oblique angle). This allows for two simultaneous depictions: 1. standing guard, when viewed from the front; 2. striding forward, when viewed from the side. The hybrid or composite iconography is powerfully evocative of strength (body of lion bull), speed (an eagle's wings) and intelligence (human head). Each monolithic colussus was carved partly in relief and partly in the round from a single block of stone, measuring up to 5.50 m2 in size. Initially carved roughly in the quarry, each statue-block was transported to its final location (often by river), where it would be set in place and be subjected to fine carving. Collabrative working with parents and others Essay
Collabrative working with parents and others - Essay Example This report shows among other details: the child's progress report annually; tabulation of performance of local schools and regular updates on their child's school from private inspectors. The governmentââ¬â¢s Education Act governs all schools in relation to their provision of educational needs, especially to the distinctive educational disadvantaged pupils, to ensure that such children receive an education that is of the same quality as their counterparts in the mainstream educational system. The Education Act ensures the involvement of parents in the learning process by encouraging them to express their views. They are also encouraged to act on their parental concerns whenever troubled about their childrenââ¬â¢s wellbeing in the school environment. The government has increased speculation in families and young children and participation in the creation of wide-ranging programmes aimed at transforming early childhood education and care. The National Childcare Strategy was impl emented. This policy sort to bring the early child development programmes, and the social services authorities together to ensure the provision of educational and social amenities to children from needy families (Tomlinson. 2005, p. 35). The QCA/DFEE was later established to promote stakeholders in education and social environment plan how their work contributes to the new early learning goals. The government provides funding that oversees the promotion of childrenââ¬â¢s personal, social and economic development through formal education and ensuring children remain in right environments to govern their rights. The government, through the Children Social Services Department, seeks to ensure that the rights of children are maintained in the family setting. The government has laid down responsibilities for all parents, to maintain healthy children. Such parenting responsibilities include provision of medical care to the children whenever they are sick, provision of basic education t o all children despite their mental and physical abilities, provision of a safe environment for child development and provision of basic needs for the child. The government gains custody of children whose parents do not support these basic needs and put the children in foster homes. Within any given social situation, the wants, needs and aspirations of different stakeholders may be quite different. It is, therefore, paramount that we identify the relevant stakeholders in order to understand their roles in the collaborative system. It is essential that the pupil should be included as a stakeholder. By looking at an individual pupil or a group of pupils, one can easily determine who the stakeholders are by observing the needs and wants of these pupils and looking at who can fulfill them and how. All stakeholders present their own personal opinions and understanding of the situation; thus, such collaboration will result in the achievement of set goals regarding situations faced by pupi ls and children. When these partnership work effectively, all the parties involved feel they have been able to realize collectively what they would not have if they worked individually (Tomlinson. 2005, p. 76). However, conflicts are bound to arise in any collaborative measure. The important thing, when faced with such a problem, is to consider what is in the interest of the children. We note

Commemorative speech on Princess Diana or Presentation
Commemorative on Princess Diana - Speech or Presentation Example The outrageous, unusual and fascinating life styles of princesses have always been under limelight. But itââ¬â¢s not at all easy to spend a life of legend. One such example is Princess Diana. She was a kind hearted, devoted and loving woman. As I overview her life, I realize the importance of her role as a magnificent Princess and an icon. She was a perfect mother of Prince William and Prince Harry and a devoted Princess of Whales. As I go through the kaleidoscope of her life, the most prominent feature of her personality which enhances our emotional attachment with her is the heighted sense of serving. Although the kind lady had an iconic presence on the worldââ¬â¢s stage still she never ignored her routine of visiting schools, nurseries, hospitals and other public places. She soon became the lovely lady of her people who was involved in charity work. The charismatic and donated ladyââ¬â¢s efforts for land mining were appreciated worldwide. Her role for the AIDS sufferers w as highly admired by the public. It was her biggest achievement. She succeeded in realizing people that contact with the patients was risk-free by shaking hand with them. Whenever you need a compassionate buddy, she was there to help and console. She said: ââ¬Å"Nothing brings me more happiness than trying to help the most vulnerable people in society. It is a goal and an essential part of my life - a kind of destiny.

Tourism Industry in India Essay This gave India the fifth rank among countries with the fastest growing tourism industry. India has a large medical tourism sector which is expected to grow at an estimated rate of 30% annually to reach about ? 9,500 crore by 2015. In the year 2011, there were nearly 6. 29 million foreign tourist arrivals in India, up by over 8% from the year 2010 when 5. 78 million foreign tourists arrived in India. Domestic tourist visits to all states and Union Territories numbered 747. 70 million. The majority of foreign tourists come from the United States (16%) and the United Kingdom (12. %). In 2011 Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Delhi were the most popular states for foreign tourists. Domestic tourists visited the states Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu most frequently. Chennai, Delhi, Mumbai and Agra have been the four most visited cities of India by foreign tourists during the year 2011. Worldwide, Chennai is ranked 41 by the number of foreign tourists, while Delhi is ranked at 50, Mumbai at 57 and Agra at 65. The Travel amp; Tourism Competitiveness Report 2011 ranked the price competitiveness of Indias tourism sector 28th out of 139 countries. It mentions that India has quite good air transport (ranked 39th), particularly given the countryââ¬â¢s stage of development, and reasonable ground transport infrastructure (ranked 43rd). Some other aspects of its tourism infrastructure remain somewhat underdeveloped however. The nation has very few hotel rooms per capita by international comparison and low ATM penetration. The Indian government has identified a shortage of 150,000 hotel rooms, with most of the undersupply in the budget sector. The Ministry of Tourism designs national policies for the development and promotion of tourism. In the process, the Ministry consults and collaborates with other stakeholders in the sector including various Central Ministries/agencies, state governments, Union Territories and the representatives of the private sector. Concerted efforts are being made to promote new forms of tourism such as rural, cruise, medical and eco-tourism. The Ministry also maintains the Incredible India campaign. Indias rich history and its cultural and geographical diversity make its international tourism appeal large and diverse. It presents heritage and cultural tourism along with medical, business and sports tourism. ABSTRACT Tourism today is the most vibrant tertiary activity and a multi-billion industry in India. Traditionally known largely for its historical and cultural dimensions, tourism today is highlighted for its immense business opportunities. With its lucrative linkages with transport, hotel industry etc. , the potential and performance of Indiaââ¬â¢s tourism industry needs to be gauged in terms of its socio-economic magnitudes. This paper traces the progress made by Indiaââ¬â¢s tourism industry in the planning era, and the emerging issues (like alternative tourism) under globalization. It examines the problems and challenges of the country as well as the pitfalls in tourism planning in India. The paper also makes some policy suggestions to address the constraints in promoting sustainable tourism in India. The Indian governments Incredible India tourism campaign and the information technology growth in India have been attracting millions of foreign tourists and business tourists to India. Medical tourism has also recently mushroomed in India. Tourism industry is a big foreign exchange earner in India, yet the industry still is hampered by Tourism development has always has been an integral part of the countryââ¬â¢s five-year plans. Initially allocations were meager: Rs. 3. 36 crore in the Second Plan,Rs. 5 crore in the Third Plan ;amp; Rs. 36 crore in the Fourth Plan. It was doubled in the Fifth Plan. The National Tourism Policy in 1982 gave a momentum to this sector. Expenditure rose from about Rs. 187 crore in the Seventh Plan to Rs. 95 crore in the Ninth Plan and further to Rs. 2900 crore in the Tenth five-year Plan. The Tourism Development Corporation, Tourism Finance Corporation, Hotel Management and Catering Technology Institutes, Food Craft Institutes, Indian Institute Tourism and Travel Management, India Tourism Development Corporation, Indian Association of Tour Operators, Travel Agents Association of India and a large number of hotel management colleges, sports and adventure clubs, beach resorts etc have also contributed to the growth and development of this industry. Emphasis laid on HRD is clear. The first major effort to promote the industry was launched with the announcement of 1991 as the ââ¬ËVisit India Yearââ¬â¢. Enormous tourist resources were commercialized. The first ever Indian Tourism Day was celebrated on January 25, 1998. The year 1999 was celebrated as ââ¬ËExplore India Millennium Yearââ¬â¢ with a host of shows, exhibitions etc. The next decade saw the restructuring of the schemes of Integrated Development of Tourist Circuits, and Product/Infrastructure Destination Development. Additional schemes/incentives were announced for service providers. Upgrading of beaches, airports, tax incentives were also introduced. Besides creating an official website for the Tourism Ministry, now the calendar of events is planned. Even the new initiatives to encourage the NRIs and PIOs, through visit India programmes, Pravasi Bharatiya Divas celebration, Dual Citizenship to certain categories of diasporic Indians have given much fillip to tourism in India. Thanks also to the booming IT and outsourcing industry a growing number of business trips are made by foreigners to India, who will often add a weekend break or longer holiday to their trip. Foreign tourists, generally spend more in India than almost any other country worldwide. Tourist arrivals are projected to increase by over 22 per cent per year through till 2010, with a 33 per cent increase in foreign exchange earnings recorded in 2004. The Tourism Ministry has also played an important role in the development of the industry, initiating advertising campaigns such as the ââ¬Å"Incredible Indiaâ⬠campaign, which promoted Indiaââ¬â¢s culture and tourist attractions in a fresh and emorable way. The tourism industry has helped growth in other sectors as diverse as horticulture, handicrafts, agriculture, construction and even poultry. Indiaââ¬â¢s governmental bodies have also made a significant impact in tourism by requiring that each and every state of India have a corporation to administer support issues related to tourism. The tourism industry of India is based on certain core nationalistic ideals and standards which are: Swaagat or welcome, Sahyog or cooperation, Soochanaa or information, Sanrachanaa or infrastructure, Suvidha or facilitation, Safaai or cleanliness and Surakshaa or security. Commonwealth Games is the additional opportunity for the Travel Industry to gain some additional business, by offering special tour packages to the tourists. As per the reports, it is estimated that more than 3. 5 million tourists are going to reach India in 2010 to be a part of the eminent Commonwealth Games that are scheduled to be held in Delhi the capital city of India. It is the high time for the Indias Tourism Industry, as the foreign tourists will be heavily dependent upon them for the flight bookings, hotel reservations, travel itineraries and visas. The growth of India Tourism market is also equally beneficial for the several associated industries such as the aviation industry, medical tourism industry and hotel industry. However year 2008, sees a whopping rise in the arrival of eco tourists in the country. Recently a new concept Rural Tourism has been launched by the government in India, which is equally doing very well. It is believed that in the next few years India Tour Industry will gain new heights and the percentage of Indias share in the global tourism will grow 1. 5% by 2010. Industry is going to fetch maximum business from the Agra (Taj Mahal), Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala , Gujarat and Rajasthan, that are expected to receive maximum number of tourists.

DEEP WOODS :: essays research papers
Dusk has fallen, and now itââ¬â¢s just starting to penetrate the canopy of the forest. The trees seem to be dancing to the music of the evening breeze and the gentle rustle of leafs compliment the overall atmosphere. The songs of birds have been totally replaced by an orchestra of crickets and other insects, and I seem to be their sole audience. My eyes peer into the gloom trying to make out what lies ahead, without much success. Soon I realize that I have to let my other senses take over in order continue on. I tread onto what seems to be a sea of moss that covers a large portion of the forest floor, forming a thick green carpet. Each of my steps leaves a green depression, which quickly fill up and erase all evidence of my passing . The soft texture of this carpet invites me to discard my shoes and I do so without much of a second thought. The green sea quickly engulfs my feet and I indulge on the velvety texture that brushes them. Reluctantly, I leave my carpet of moss and make an unsuccessful attempt to find my shoes. I venture onto a thin trail that is suffocated with undergrowth and slowly, start making my way down it. I do not seem to feel any discomfort due to the lack of shoes on the contrary the feeling of the soft moist earth under my feet is an unforgettable experience. The stars are just only starting to peer through the intricate patchwork of leafs and light patches of the forest floor. Fireflies dance like fairies and ignite tiny patches of light, which randomly appears and then suddenly disappears. I stop for a moment, captivated by this danceââ¬â¢s beauty, and then I realize that I have made little progress since I came onto the path. My attention shifts back too my walk and I continue on. The aroma of pine peers into my nostrils and attempts to hypnotize me. Its spell is abruptly broken by the unmistakable sound of flowing water. I get lured to a spot where the tall giants of the forest have parted to make way for a small stream. The reflection caused my the moonââ¬â¢s light causes its surface to emit a queer silver glow which causes the trunks of nearby trees to look like foreboding dark phantoms. Even in this light, I am able to make out the array of smooth pebbles that litter the streamââ¬â¢s bed.

Healthy Eating is Healthy Living Essay
Did you know that the money spent to treat people with illnesses related to the lack of health makes up 9.1 percent of the Americaââ¬â¢s total medical expenses? That is about 78.5 billion dollars! (CDC). If we all eat healthier, expenses like these could be lowered. That is why kids, especially students, should eat more healthy foods. All of us know that eating our fruits and vegetables is important for our health. But how important is it? Healthy eating can actually reduce a personââ¬â¢s risk from developing any illnesses such diabetes, obesity, hypertension, etc. Foods with the proper nutrients and vitamins can increase a personââ¬â¢s immunity so that they will not be susceptible to the diseases. For example, a higher calcium intake can reduce the risk for developing diabetes (M.N.T). According to the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention, a minimum of 400 grams of fruits and vegetables must be eaten by kids ages 11- 16 per day (CDC). These are the necessary amounts to maintain a good health and not get sick. Healthy eating helps you maintain a good weight. About one to two months ago, my school, Sutter Middle School, required everyone to be part of the physical fitness program. Students must have their weight and height measured during this program. I noticed that there were students who were really nervous about measuring their weight. I realized that kids with the lack of health can sometimes feel self-conscious when it comes to their weight, whether it being underweight, overweight, or obese. Depending on the age, a person must consume a consistent amount of calories per day to maintain a decent weight. A healthy diet consisting of whole grains, fruits, vegetables, etc. offers a good and balanced calorie supply. Fatty foods, like potato chips, soda, pizza, hamburgers, etc. contain too many calories per serving. For moderately active kids, males ages 14-18 can have 2200-2800 calories per day and females ages 14-18 can have 2000 calories per day (Exercise). ââ¬Å"We have all heard that eating a healthy diet is expensive, and people have used that as an excuse for not eating a healthy diet, but healthy foods do not necessarily cost more than less healthy foods,â⬠says Andrea Carlson, an economist from the U.S. Department of Agricultureââ¬â¢s Economic Research Service. Junk foods may be convenient and tasty, but they donââ¬â¢t cost any more than fresh and healthy produce. The price of carrots is half the price of potato chips by portion size. According to Andreaà Carlsonââ¬â¢s and her colleague Elizabeth Frazà £oââ¬â¢s studies, when considering portion size, the least to most expensive types of food are: grains, dairy, vegetables, fruit, protein and less healthy foods. (Carl son). Another important benefit from eating healthy is energy. Eating healthy allows students to have the energy to perform well in school and sports. Foods that contain a lot of nutrients and vitamins offer a long digestion time, giving you a slower and stable release of energy (Straight Health). The longer the digestion will take, the longer your energy will last. Principals often call during the week standardized testing to say to get plenty of rest and eat a healthy breakfast. A healthy breakfast can actually help students with testing because a meal containing complex carbohydrates, protein, fat, etc. can prevent a drop in blood sugar and allow students to last throughout the day (Healthier). Many people often think, ââ¬Å"Well foods with a bunch of sugar can make you energetic.â⬠That is true. Though that is true, junk foods with a lot of simple carbohydrates, also known as sugar, create a big boost in energy but also create a sugar crash. A sugar crash is when you consume foods that are loaded with sugar and lack other nutrients. Then later, your blood sugar suddenly spikes down, causing fatigue and dizziness, negatively affecting studentsââ¬â¢ school performances (Straight Health). Many beneficial consequences can be made if students eat more healthy foods. It can help students reduce their risk from developing any illnesses, maintain a good and balanced weight, and allow them to have the energy to perform well in school and/or sports. What are you waiting for? Go grab a healthy snack and enjoy it!

Personal Leadership Leadership And Its Challenges And...
This paper covers personal leadership by describing a personal leadership philosophy. This is explored by presenting a squadron commanderââ¬â¢s biggest leadership challenge. Additionally, an analysis of the leadership challenge is evaluated in context with the authorââ¬â¢s leadership philosophy. In accomplishing these elements, this paper will provide a learning opportunity and insight into leadership and its challenges and opportunities. PERSONAL STYLE When confronted by a Group Commander about my leadership philosophy, I would say a triple bottom line approach of social, economic, and environment in order to accomplish organizational sustainability. I correlate the social bottom line to taking care of people. My approach to this is following the golden rule. I associate the economic bottom line with the mission. Essentially the military ââ¬Å"makes moneyâ⬠based on mission accomplishment, and focus on other bottom lines is meaningless without success in the mission. Finally, I link the environment bottom line to the culture that is built in an organization. For me this includes areas such as innovative thinking, diversity, equality, and a setting a mentality of success. I arrived at this philosophy based on military experience and education. Specifically, as I pursued my Masterââ¬â¢s Degree, sustainability in business and the principle of the triple bottom peaked my interest. Seongwu Han ââ¬Ë12 African American History II Mr. Williams 2009/06/07 hans@carleton.edu Opposition to the End of Black History Thesis The election of Barack Obama as the president of the United States surprised Americans as much as it did the world. The first African American and non-white to be in the White House, Barack Obama symbolized a major historical event, another step-forward toward racial equality in the history of America. Civil rights activists, experts in the racial conflict of the U.S., and many liberal citizens believed that Obamaââ¬â¢s election means the realization of the ideas of black civil rights leaders, the completion of the Civil Rights Movement, the beginning of a post-racial society, and the downfall ofâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦To Garvey, Obama would be seen as a half-independent leader with a trace of ââ¬Ëthe slave spirit of dependence.ââ¬â¢ Another important figure in African American history that would raise objections to the end-of-black-history thesis is Ella Baker, an influential grassroots organizer of the mid 20th century. Ella Baker was a very different figure from many charismatic black male leaders who received national attention and coverage from media. She was a community organizer that helped common people to stand up effectively for a common cause. Her strong belief that ââ¬Ëpeople had to learn to lead themselvesââ¬â¢ and disgust of ââ¬Ëhero worshipââ¬â¢ made her remain as an ââ¬Ëoutsider withinââ¬â¢ in organizations such NAACP and SCLC although she had done a considerable amount to contribute to both. Bakerââ¬â¢s concept of leadership was a group-centered one that could help individuals with the goal of betterment of the public grow into ââ¬Ëbeing responsible for carrying out a program.ââ¬â¢ Also, Baker believed that group-centered leadership is much more beneficial in working to ward racial uplift than individual-centered leadership because charismatic leaders are susceptible to corruption, tend not to identify with people and remain above, become idolized, and encourage disaffection of community leaders from the struggle for racial equality. Swot Analysis of the Build-a-Bear Workshop free essay sample
Venturing into an untapped market for hands-on customisation of teddy bears, Build-a-Bear has established itself as a market leader. Its success derives from its dynamic retail concept where customers create their own teddy bears from choosing the outer casing of the bear down to stitching it up, personalising it along the way. The interactive nature of the process brings out the creativity and individuality of the customer and at the same time, allows them to have fun. Build-a-Bear is family oriented and does not restrict the age of customers to below 12, hence is an ideal place to go for family bonding. Guests enjoy the highly visual environment, the sounds and the fantasy of this special place while they create a memory with their family and friends. Why Build-a-Bear has been successful so far is probably the fact that the customer walks out of the store happy and satisfied. Due to the popularity of the Internet for networking, especially amongst todayââ¬â¢s Internet savvy kids, Build-a-Bear has launched a virtual world- buildabearville. We will write a custom essay sample on Swot Analysis of the Build-a-Bear Workshop or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page com- to pique their interest in their products and build customer loyalty. There, guests can bring their furry friends to life online to play together, create their own online character, play games, chat with friends and more. Knowing the market is essential in keeping up with the changing wants of kids, which is why the ââ¬Å"Virtual Cub Advisory Councilâ⬠was created, where a panel of children gives feedback on what they would like to see in Build-a-Bear stores. To exercise their social responsibility and build more positive images, Build-a-Bear has initiated several programs that support various causes that help children, families and animals. Stuffed with Hugsâ⠢ is an annual event that allows guests to visit the store and make a bear for free to be donated to a worthy cause. Weaknesses Due to the nature of the Build-a-Bear product, obtaining a bear comes with a price tag that may not be affordable to everyone. Thus, Build-a-Bear may be inaccessible to the lower income market. Also, Build-a-Bear may inculcate brand consciousness and materialism in young children as children may not be content with cheaper, off the shelves bears. In its bid to expand its product line, Build-a-Bear has introduced a doll product line- Friends 2B Made- where guests can create their own fashionable friends and develop its own personalities. However they may have over diversified as a drop in spending has resulted in the impending closure of 9 Friends 2B Made stores. Instead, they should focus on the primary product, which is the Build-a-Bear Workshop. Opportunities Build-a-Bear has tied up with several companies such as Disney, where they have came up with bears such as the Hannah Montana Bear, banking on the success of the popular children show to generate sales. As such, Build-a-Bear should form more strategic partnerships to boost sales. With huge economic growth in countries such as China and India, there is a large untapped market there for personalisation of teddy bears. In China, parents are known to spend lavishly on their only child hence expansion into these markets is highly lucrative as the citizens are increasingly affluent. Market research can be done for localisation and to cater to these markets according to their culture and tastes. Threats Childrenââ¬â¢s wants are ever-changing, with a high demand when a novel concept appears on the market and their interest dying off when something new comes along. As such, Build a Bear may face decreasing demand when the novelty wanes off. However, the company has taken steps to ensure that there will be continued interests in their products by launching a loyalty program: visitors receive coupons, frequent-shopper discounts, and gift-with-purchase promotions. With the current demand for personalised toys, other toy makers may jump onto the bandwagon and provide similar services such as providing customised clothes that fit all makes of teddy bears.

The United Stated of America Essay Example For Students
The United Stated of America Essay The United Stated is currently the most influential country on the face of the earth. Not only concerning the issues of money and business but also our choices of music clothes and recreational activities. Often times people think of countries such as Japan and China as being completely different. We think they have strange dress and odd customs, they are thought to have a completely different culture than ours. You will find that that is incorrect, the ir cultures are actually very similar to ours. Because of the amount of clothing, food and other products that we ship out of this country every day our culture has no choice but to ooze out of our borders onto foreign soil. For example you could walk i nto a modern Japanese society expecting a bunch of old people kneeling on dirt floors wearing kimonos and drinking green tea but actually find a society of youths wearing Levi jeans, trendy clothes, listening to American pop-rock music, and eating Big Mac s that they just bought from down the street at their local McDonalds. We will write a custom essay on The United Stated of America specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now You could also find a group of people watching a football game and gossiping about the new movie with that really hot American chick in it. Of course all countries have different h olidays and traditions, they eat different foods and have customs that seem strange to us but more and more their ways seem to be becoming like those of us here in the United States of America. The question asks if I think that the influence of our pop culture will continue. I think that that all depends on weather or not we remain the worlds super power in the future. I think that the reason that we are imitated by other countries is bec ause of our wealth and power. It is sort of like the United States is the most popular girl in school. She has a bunch of followers who dress like her, do their hair like her and claim to like the same music and movies as her. But no matter how hard th ey try they can never quite keep up to her ever changing style. Much like the patterns of the countries that try to imitate the U. S. If you look closely at these cultures you will notice that the clothes that they wear were the clothes that we wore ten years ago and I wouldnt be surprised if they are groovin to the sounds of the eighties as we speak. I often wonder why we havent picked up much of any other countries culture. Sure, there have been fads like the Macarena and the on going like for foods such as tacos and chop suey, but every thing is always somehow Americanized. I suppose its beca use we are so preoccupied with our own appearances and our countries image that we dont have time to stop and look around. Or maybe its the fact that we are trying to convince ourselves that everybody wants to be like us and that is how it will always b e. No matter what happens though, there is always a new popular girl that everybody wants to be like. Her power dies down and the followers find some one else to imitate. I think that sooner or later, maybe not in my lifetime, that the awe of the United S tates will die down along with the influence and the power on other countries and they will find someone else to follow or maybe they will gain the power and self respect to be their own nation, to not pay attention to what everybody else is doing and may be people will start to follow them.

Tales of a Kremlin Digger Review Essay Example
Tales of a Kremlin Digger Review Paper Essay on Tales of a Kremlin Digger Strange thing a book I did not like, and I score it set higher. As they say, for the credit. A credit is really unique for our times it is the only book published by us after the advent of freedom of the press, which was distributed in photocopy, and very active. Circulation, say, delayed on the road from some of the provincial press in the capital. They brought a few copies, and there is such that nothing could doterpet people and let Photocopier. Then, on receipt of circulation in Moscow, the process of self-publishing safely extinguished, but fact is fact -.? Since the late eighties this has not happened with any book So what is it When it comes to my typical narrow-minded point of view, so thats what. Some well-known names of famous politicians: Yeltsin, Putin, Voloshin, Chubais, Nemtsov, still some there, in general, all those whom I have personally only seen on TV and about which only the Internet is something out there reading. According Tregubova it turns out that they do not like each other and build each other all sorts of trouble called the machinations, and in parallel with these classes with their all but Yeltsin, very passionately wanted to seduce the very Tregubova. However, it is all of them broken off (even Putin himself) and wrote a book, which told us what they were treacherous and dishonest and absolutely did not even gentlemen. For this she, as usual, tried to take revenge, but revenge she dodged by sheer luck, although it remained without work and maintenance. And all this with all sorts of juicy details about which, of course, no one would never write. In short, icky doggy face of power tur ned out in all its glory. Because it is not realized that she wanted to communicate. What they there under the carpet prohibited methods are used? And that we are children, and that we are in their offices in the same does not hold. Surprised. The fact that they are there and more dogs? A male who is not from men? No, you tell me, who is not a dog? The fact that such policies the country has no happy future? But is the future of all may depend on the politicians? This is equivalent to saying that the weather depends on the behavior of forecasters. By the way, I have one friend forecaster, a rare bastard and a womanizer notorious and specialist, said valuable. So what am I doing? It is not necessary, gentlemen, to offend women oh, do not! this is another reason why I put this book a perfect score.
